Adriatic Cup: innovation and digital strategy for a powerboat racing event in Brindisi
Adriatic Cup is the powerboat racing event that brought rounds of the F2 and F4 world championships to Brindisi, in Apulia. I have been its innovation manager since 2014: I work on the event’s digital strategy and on ways of bringing boating closer to people. For a few years I also worked for SNIM, the Apulian boat show (Salone Nautico di Puglia).

- Innovation manager: digital strategy and project management
The starting point
Boating is a complex sector where technology, supply chains, tourism and sport overlap. An event like Adriatic Cup has two audiences to win over. Fans want to follow the race. Companies in the sector are looking for visibility and contacts.
The work
In my work in boating I have followed two lines:
- engaging the public with events and digital strategies that can interest people who know nothing about powerboat racing;
- bringing Industry 4.0 technologies such as IoT, big data and data analysis into the projects of companies in the sector, to raise awareness of their brands and services.
Alongside the events, I have worked with Apulian and Italian boating companies on projects that combine web strategy, software development and technologies built with technology partners.
What you can learn from this case
Technology alone is not enough to grow a niche sector. People also need a way to experience it. This applies to a sports event as much as to a company that wants to become known. If you work in boating or events, see the digital strategy and marketing service or the innovation manager for SMEs service.

What does an innovation manager do for a sports event?
They work on the event’s digital strategy: communication, audience engagement, tools for partners and sponsors, data collection and analysis. The aim is to make the event and its area known beyond race day and to build relationships with companies in the sector.
