Gruppo Danese: from the shipyard to the international market

Gruppo Danese grew out of traditional shipbuilding: refitting, maintenance, technical support. For years its value was built in the harbour, through technical experience and direct relationships. A solid reputation, but confined to the offline world. This case describes how that heritage became a digital presence that can also speak to international partners.

Analysis of the company and its markets, information architecture; development by the Moviweb S.r.l. team

The starting point

The group had several operating units, from maintenance to charter, from sales to marina hospitality. What it lacked was a single, professional presentation: each business described itself on its own, and visitors from outside could not see the real size of the group.

The physical shipyard, before The digital shipyard, the goal
Visibility limited to the local area and the harbour A presence the international market can reach, 24 hours a day
Clients acquired almost only through word of mouth New B2B and B2C contacts reached online
Services presented one by one, with no common thread An integrated offer from all the group’s companies, clear at a glance

The real challenge: not “building a website”

The biggest risk when digitalising a long-established company is losing its identity. Gruppo Danese is not a digital start-up: it is a complex organisation with well-established processes. The aim was not to follow the trend of the moment but to build an online ecosystem that is clear, credible and functional, and that reflects decades of work in the shipyard.

The work

  1. Analysis

I studied how the shipyard works, its target markets and the different units of the group.

  2. Organisation

We structured the corporate identity on three levels, corporate, services and fleet, to make it readable online.

  3. Development

The Moviweb team built the integrated web ecosystem, starting from cantieredanese.it, with communication tools suited to B2B.

  4. Continuity

Support and monitoring over time, so that the digital presence evolves together with the business.

Five businesses, one ecosystem

  • Shipyard (Cantiere Navale): refitting and maintenance.
  • Calypso Corporation: advanced services for boating.
  • Approdo delle Indie: marina hospitality and harbour management.
  • Nautical Store: sale of specialised supplies.
  • Adriatic Cup: events and sports positioning (see also the Adriatic Cup case).

Results

  • Clear positioning

Each of the group’s services has its own defined space.

  • The fleet in the spotlight

Vessels and technical capabilities are presented better, an essential point for the B2B market.

  • Information always available

Clients, partner shipyards and foreign contacts can find it at any time.

  • A consistent image

The group presents itself at its real size.

Digital does not replace the experience of the shipyard: it makes it visible.

This project is also an example of how I work: first you understand the company, then you choose the technology (see my method). If your company has a value that cannot be seen outside its local area, let’s talk.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your question? Write to me and I will answer.

Ask your question

What was digitalised at Gruppo Danese?

The way the group presents itself to the market. Five businesses (the shipyard, Calypso Corporation, Approdo delle Indie, Nautical Store and Adriatic Cup) were organised into one consistent web ecosystem, starting from cantieredanese.it.

What was Vito Domenico Amodio's role?

He led the analysis of the company, its operating units and its target markets, and designed the information architecture. The digital infrastructure was developed by the Moviweb S.r.l. team.

Does a long-established company risk losing its identity when it goes digital?

That is the main risk. In this project digital tools did not change the way the shipyard works: they made visible to the outside world a know-how that until then had travelled only through presence in the harbour and word of mouth.
